Petition Description
Travelling is a stressful experience for those who want to bring their small dogs abroad from the UK into Europe.
Flying out of the UK is pricey but doable and small dogs can fly in cabin as rightful members of their human families. Returning home to the UK though is a completely different story. Not only small dogs are not allowed to fly in cabin but the only authorised return routes to the UK are to carry dogs in a vehicle and boarding the vehicle on a ferry or train from continental Europe. Unless one is happy with flying their pet as cargo.
In a proudly pet-friendly country like the UK, pet owners are exposed to an overwhelming exercise which might put them off travelling altogether. Provided the necessary animal health certificates are clear there is very poor justification for such restrictions on flying small dogs in cabin into the UK and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs shall make the necessary changes in the current regulations on pets travel.
For those who have pets, the benefits of pets on mental, physical and emotional health often offset any limitations that come with the responsibility of living with an animal but having better rules in place can have positive effects for pets, their human families and for the travel industry and economy!
