The People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA) PAW 2022 report summarises data from the UK on pet ownership. In 2022, there were 10.2 million dogs, 11.1 million cats, and 1 million rabbits reported owned in the UK. In total 27% of UK adults own a dog, 24% own a cat, and 2% own a rabbit.

In 2022, 6% of pet owners travelled abroad with their pet, with dog owners being the majority (9%. Approximately 60% travel abroad for holidays and 40% to see their families).
In general 68% of dogs are left alone for part of the day, with the majority being left alone
for 1-4 hours. 11% of dogs experience separation anxiety when left at home.
Pet ownership contributes greatly to the well-being of their owners with 94% owners (95% dog owners) stating that pet ownership makes them happy, 65% of owners claiming to have better health (85% dog owners), 84% reporting improvements in their mental health (87% dog owners) , and 84% reporting less loneliness (85% dog owners) .
